Okay, I have to tell you about the CRAZIEST thing that happened today at HCES. What was supposed to be a chill half-day turned into pure chaos, all thanks to the GATEWAY teacher and her extreme punishment for talking during reading time.
So, it starts like this: We’re just having a normal reading time—quiet, relaxed, and talking a little, as we do. I mean, come on, we’re in 3rd grade, and a half-day is supposed to be a break from the usual, right? But, out of nowhere, the GATEWAY teacher announces that anyone talking has to do jumping jacks.
And I’m not talking about just a few. Oh no, she wasn’t playing around. If you were talking, you were doing 50 jumping jacks. But for the really unlucky ones who just couldn’t stop chatting, it got worse. 100. 150. Even more! 😳
I was honestly just sitting there, shocked, thinking, “Is this for real?” But sure enough, the unlucky ones had to drop and start doing jumping jacks in front of the whole class. It was like a fitness boot camp in the middle of reading time. Some of my classmates were struggling to get through 150 jumping jacks, and I’m pretty sure a few of them were about to pass out!
Now, I’m not saying we should be talking during reading time, but 150 jumping jacks in the middle of a half-day? In 3rd grade? It definitely felt a little harsh. I was one of the lucky ones who wasn’t talking, so I got to avoid the jumping jacks, but watching everyone else… let’s just say I was kind of relieved I wasn’t in their shoes. 😅
It was honestly so over the top, but also kind of hilarious to watch. Everyone was jumping like crazy, trying to get through the punishment, and it kind of turned into a whole ordeal—for something that started as a few whispers!
What do you guys think? Was it a little extreme, or am I just overreacting? If you were one of the ones doing jumping jacks, how many did you end up with? Let me know in the comments—I’m dying to hear your stories!
Until next time, here’s hoping for a drama-free day and no more surprise fitness challenges during reading time!
