the day the bus window fought back.

this afternoon, something wild happened on bus duty. the kind of thing that makes you go, “wait, did that really just happen?”

a pre-k'er — tiny, brave, and just trying to get comfy on the ride home — reached up to close the bus window. now, these windows aren’t exactly toddler-friendly. they take muscle, attitude, and sometimes, a little luck.

she gave it her best shot. pushed. tugged. and then —

SLAM.

right on her hand.

it was instant. her eyes welled up. her face crumpled. the kind of cry that only a four-year-old can do — loud, raw, and heartbreakingly real.

enter: mrs. chack, the assistant principal and true hero of the day.
she came over like a boss, calm and ready, holding a bag of ice like it was a trophy. gently handed it over, knelt down, and made sure that little hand was taken care of.

the girl sniffled, held the ice, and clutched her pride. she was hurting, sure — but she made it through.
and that bus window? it better watch its back.

final thought:
pre-k might be small, but they’re tough. and thank goodness for staff like mrs. chack who show up when it counts — with ice and heart.
